What is a Sports Massage?
Sports massage is not just for those people that “do sport”, but for anyone that has muscle tension, aches, sprains or pains. It might be from doing too much gardening, sitting at a desk all day or even as a result of the everyday stresses of modern life. Alternatively sports massage can assist you in your training for a sports event or recovery from an injury.
- Helps relieve tension and pain in muscles and other soft tissues
- Used for injured, broken down or scarred muscle tissue
- Helps promote the healing of injured areas
- Works much deeper than other forms of massage
- Helpful for athletes as well as every day and work-based overuse injuries
This visit includes an assessment to see which muscles of the body are causing the issue and then that specific area is treated intensively to correct the problem. In this way sports massage therapy can be tailored to suit your individual needs. Sports massage physically breaks down adhesions to help relieve pain and restore the muscle tissue back to it’s healthy state.
Sports massage therapists use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows and forearms during treatment. Breathing deeply will be asked of the patient while the therapist relieves pain on certain tense areas of the body. Heat and essential oils maybe be used to relieve any discomfort and to help relax muscles. Avoiding any strenuous activity is beneficial and can help speed up the healing process.
Please allow 60 minutes for this type of visit.
